Interview procedure and schedule
What is the Amazon Technical Program Manager (TPM) interview process and schedule? It takes four to eight weeks and follow the steps below. Note that the process on AWS follows similar steps.
Let's take a closer look at each of these steps below:
First, recruiters will review your resume and assess whether your experience matches the open position. This is the most competitive stage of the process as millions of applicants are stuck at this stage.
This free guide will help you tailor your resume to the job you are applying for.

In most cases, you'll begin your Amazon interview with a phone call to a recruiter. They want to confirm that you have a chance of getting the job, so be prepared to explain your background and why you're a good fit for Amazon.
You should expect typical behavior and answer questions like "Tell me about yourself", "Why Amazon?". or "Tell me about your day as a technical program manager." Make sure you express your understanding of Amazon's principles of leadership even when answering the most common interview questions (more on this below).
Once past the HR screen, you will be invited to a TPM phone screen or two. This step is called "phone screen," but it's sometimes done via video chat using Amazon Chime, the company's video conferencing product.
Each interview lasts 45 to 60 minutes. You speak to a potential TPM colleague or manager and answer a combination of questions about system design and behavior.
The role of the phone screen is to make sure the website is worth visiting. So your interviewer will try to make sure there isn't an area where you're particularly weak and don't have a chance of hitting the attitude barrier.
In many cases, if you pass the TPM phone screening, you will be asked to write a one- or two-page essay in preparation for your on-site interview on a topic such as, “What is the most innovative project you have worked on? worked? ' or 'Tell about an experience where you made life easier for your customers'.
Written communication is at the core of Amazonian culture. And TPMs in particular write a lot of documents. This exercise is designed to test your ability to write in a structured and clear manner. It's important to remember that interviewers will pay attention to how your essay relates to leadership principles, whether or not it is stated in the assignment instructions.
If you break your phone screen, the next step is to spend a full day at one of Amazon's offices and attend four to six interviews. These interviews last 45 to 60 minutes and are conducted one-on-one with a mix of people from the team you're applying for, including colleagues, the hiring manager and a senior executive.
kind of questions
You can expect one or two interviews to focus primarily on system design and the rest on behavioral issues.
System design questions usually involve digging deeper into the system design you've worked on before (for example, tell me about the design of the most complex project you've worked on). Or about designing a new system from scratch (like how you would design Amazon Video).
A common mistake candidates make is not being well prepared for behavioral questions. Each interviewer is usually given two or three guiding principles to focus on during the interview. These questions are much more important at Amazon than at other big tech companies like Google or Facebook.
dumbbell lifter
Finally, one of your final interviews will be with what Amazon calls a "bar raiser." These interviewers are not affiliated with the team you are applying to and focus more on the overall quality of the candidate than the specific needs of the team. They are specially trained to ensure that Amazon's hiring standards remain high and do not decrease over time, creating a major barrier between you and the job offer.
